Tsubame notebooks contain only acid-free, neutral pH papers to ensure no long-term reactions with ink. Lines and markings are made with water-based ink to decrease interference with writing regardless of inks used. The non-fluorescent paper colors lessen eye fatigue for prolonged reading sessions.
With their signature foolscap paper, an internal lattice structure may be seen under bright lighting. This unique paper making technique creates a smooth writing surface without becoming too slippery. Ink dry times remain faster than papers relying on excessive surface coating. The paper is thick enough to prevent ink bleedthrough for a wide variety of writing instruments.
The premium line features 3 layout options laid out on cream-colored paper. The cream color is specially chosen to enhance reading comfort. The pages appear “softer” to the eyes.

Tsubame Note Co., Ltd. has manufactured notebooks in the traditional Japanese way for decades. Founded by Watanabe Hatsusaburō in 1947, the design of its classic line of notebooks has stayed the same. In response to the rapidly modernizing post-war economy, he devised an excellent and affordable notebook to preserve the writing culture of the time. Today, all Tsubame notebooks feature signature watermarked paper created in the British “foolscap” method and bound together by sewn-stitching.
